You will, I am sure, have seen the extensive media coverage of the Climate Change Protest planned to take place outside the Scottish Parliament on Friday March 15th. You will probably also be aware of the recent motion passed by the Education Committee to authorise the absence of pupils who are attending the protest.
I attach a letter from Lorna Sweeney, Schools and Lifelong Learning Service Manager, which gives some information regarding this. Please tap or click here to read the letter.
For the avoidance of doubt, Tynecastle High School remains open as usual on Friday 15th March. Teaching will carry on as normal.
If your child will be absent from school to participate in the protest you must confirm, in advance and in writing, that your child has your permission to participate and that you will be responsible for their safety during their absence. It is very important that your note includes both those elements so we can correctly record your child’s absence from school. Any other absences should be notified in the normal way(s). We will make a truancy call, as per our normal procedures, to the parent/carer of any pupil who is absent for whom we do not have an explanation.
If your child is planning to join the protest in the afternoon, after school has finished, you do not need to let us know.
