I cannot believe that we are now at the end of my first year here at Tynecastle High School. In many ways it has passed so quickly, and yet, reflecting on the year for speeches and reports, it seems incredible that we have achieved so much and some of it already seems so long ago.
This term has been terribly busy, but so enjoyable and rewarding for us too. The priority was of course our SQA exams, for which our students were once more commended. A hugely successful Awards Ceremony, Meaningful May ’16, Primary 7 Transition days, our new Performance Showcase and the many, many events and trips for Health and Wellbeing Week, have all ensured that we enjoyed a very full and vibrant term.
Other highlights for me included our Digital Classroom Open Afternoon for parents on the back of Digital Learning Week and TeachMeet; becoming finalists in the Debate Mate held in London, even though it was our first year competing, and hearing from our intrepid explorers who returned from their Polar Academy Adventure at the start of this term.
However, none of this would have been possible without the hard work and endless enthusiasm of our staff as well as your time and support. Because of this, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in our school community – staff, partner agencies, parents and families, as well as the students themselves for the excellent first year I have had as your Head Teacher. I would also like to wish you a restful and enjoyable summer holiday and very much look forward to the start of another successful year in August.
