How gratitude helps us to bounce forward

…and some resilience-themed films!

CMHW_sunshine_LogoWhat a week! Chinese New Year, Shrove Tuesday and the start of Lent, Dress Down Friday to support elderly people in our local community… and Children’s Mental Health Week! Good job there’s a school holiday on the horizon – we’ll all need a break to recover!

Research suggests that gratitude – the simple act of noticing and appreciating the things in our lives that we can feel glad and grateful about – is a key ingredient in cultivating resilience. So as we head into the holiday, we at Place2Be would like to thank all the students and staff at Tynecastle High for their generous support of our Children’s Mental Health Week campaign this year. It’s been a real privilege to spend the week talking and thinking with all of you about emotional resilience and how we can build our capacity to ‘bounce forward’ from life’s challenges.

We’ve played ‘Resilience Roulette’ at the Community Desk and recommended our favourite ‘resilience reads’ in the library. Today all students have been learning more about resilience in tutor time. The Tynie FM student radio team even broadcast a resilience-themed playlist on Wednesday lunchtime!

Place2Be wish you all a restful and reinvigorating February break. See below for some top tips for movies about people ‘bouncing forwards’ that you might like to watch while you relax and unwind. Happy holidays!
