SkillForce DoE Practice Expedition

A few weeks ago, students from Tynecastle’s SkillForce class went out on their practice expedition as part of their Duke Of Edinburgh Bronze Award. The expedition lasted for two days.

SkillForce 2 Day one – Consisted of a 13 kilometre walk starting at The Howe (Pentlands) past Harlaw Rangers Centre and finishing at Bonaly Scout camp, where the students set up camp for the night. Once the tents were up the students had to cook their own dinner using trangia stoves, on the menu was hotdogs, chilli con carnie or pot noodles. After dinner and despite their aching legs and feet the students played various sports until bedtime.

SkillForce 3Day two – Started at 7am when everyone had to get out of bed, have some breakfast and get motivated to start another gruelling 10 kilometre walk. The students walked from Bonaly scout camp, up past Glencorse Reservoir, past Logan House and finished back at the Howe.

A big well done to each and every one of the students who all showed great leadership & teamwork skills as well as demonstrating a high level of navigational skills throughout the two day Expedition. The assessed expedition will take place at the end of June.
