University applicants remember to plan your open day visits for 2019/20
An invitation to all Parents and Carers to visit our Careers and Opportunities Fair on Monday 14 November between 3.30pm and 5pm
At Tynecastle High School we have been developing student awareness of out of school opportunities and beyond school possibilities. As part of this we ran a Careers and Opportunities Fair last year which was fantastic at raising the profile of the many different positive destinations that exist for our young people.
This year we plan to run another Careers and Opportunities Fair here at Tynecastle High School on the afternoon of Monday 14 November. Senior students will attend during school and from 3.30pm (until 5pm) we want to invite parents and carers to attend in order to learn more about the exciting opportunities available for school leavers.
Around 25 organisations will be in attendance, representing a whole range of possible post-school destinations including University, College and Modern Apprenticeships as well as a range of employers and professionals keen to share about further training opportunities in their industry.
Please do put this event in your diary and drop in to join us for the Careers and Opportunities Fair on Monday 14 November between 3.30pm and 5pm. If you have any questions or queries please don’t hesitate to contact the school on 0131 337 3488.
Pupil Support Leader
All pupils who plan to study a course of Higher Education at HNC level or above must apply to the Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS) for funding. Although tuition fees are effectively free in Scotland, you must apply to SAAS to pay them on your behalf, otherwise your college or university will charge you the cost of your tuition which is £1,285 for an HNC or HND and £1,820 for a degree.
You must apply to SAAS for your funding by no later than 30 June prior to every year of your course, to make sure your funding is in place by the start of each term.
SAAS can also supply bursaries and student loans to help with living costs such as books, travel accommodation etc. Full details are available on the SAAS website www.saas.gov.uk. A handy funding guide can be found here http://www.saas.gov.uk/_forms/funding_guide.pdf and a video which explains the funding available, how to apply and when to apply can be found here http://www.saas.gov.uk/images/presentation.mp4. This information is also available in the College and University information pages on our website here.
