Tynecastle High School is a School of Basketball, an educational programme which has been successfully running for the past four years. The partnership, between the school and West Edinburgh Warriors Basketball Club, with input and support from Basketball Scotland, not only enhances the provision we offer in physical education and physical activity but also aims to create an environment where sport will make a significant contribution to the development of young people. This opportunity is offered to a limited number of S1 students.
Not only will the programme develop your son/daughters’ physical skills it will also work to develop essential lifelong skills: Communication; Team working; Leadership; Discipline; Employability, Creativity; Developing Strategies and problem solving etc.
The programme involves 1/2 sessions within the curriculum and 1/2 extra-curricular sessions (before/after school0. They are provided with a space and support to complete any subject work they miss after school. The times for this coming year are yet undecided but we are hoping to start the programme after the summer in late August/early September.
In S1 they will work towards completing the Dynamic Youth Award, gaining SCQF points. In S2 they undertake the Make it Happen course (introduction to refereeing, coaching and officiating) and in S3 they will work towards a qualification in leadership.
