Edinburgh Back to School Tips

Back to School Tip #4: Look on the Bright Side

Find positive moments, however small, each day

Our brains are wired to notice threats, sometimes that stops us seeing the good stuff. That can mean we have to really try to be positive.

Your child: Help your child identify the positive things about lockdown easing or returning to school. Who might they be looking forward to seeing or what might they be looking forward to doing?

You: Consider the positives for you of lockdown easing and children returning to school.

Together: It can be helpful to make time each day to think of one or two positive things. It may be nice to write these down in diary or post them in a jar, share them with your child and listen to their ideas. You could have a phrase like “Today I loved…. playing football with you”

Details about Phased Return to Tynecastle High School

Please read the letter outlining the details of the phased return to school from Wednesday 12th August for Tynecastle students.

Please also read the information issued by the City of Edinburgh Council.

We look forward to safely welcoming students back beginning on Wednesday 12th August.

SQA Appeals

Like many other schools in Edinburgh and around the country, we expect to request quite a large number of Appeals on behalf of our students.  Please be aware that final decisions in regard to submission of Appeal requests are taken by Headteachers.

If you would like to request that consideration is given to requesting an appeal on your behalf (looking either for a fail to become a pass, or for a result to be upgraded, for example from a B to an A), please in the first instance contact the Curricular Leader of the subject in question.  Curricular Leaders will work with Mrs Bell, SQA Coordinator, to consider requests for appeals, which may only be made if:

  • Resulted grades are lower than the estimates which were submitted to SQA in May and
  • There is available sufficient good quality evidence to demonstrate student ability in the subject in question.

Please be assured that, as ever, we will do everything we can to support our students.
